Meet the Artist: Critical Madness

Please introduce yourself?
We are Critical Madness. One half cRITICAL. One half Madness. One hundred percent drunken insanity.

From where?
CM started in the Ozone (Orlando), FL sunshine and has branched out to Brooklyn, NY and The Bay, CA. But no matter where either of us are we stay "Live From FL."

Music Influences?
Our musical influences range from The Doors to Deep Purple to Nas, Redman, Slayer, The Beatnuts, Van Morrison, Cypress Hill and anyone else who has ever put their blood and soul into their art.

Debut appearance as a group?
If memory serves correctly (alcohol abuse hinders this), it was at Urban Jungle's weekly hip-hop variety show the "H.U.S.H Show" and we did a mix of solo and group material. There was no other groups that sounded like us so the attention was grabbed immediately, plus we had already garnered notoriety through the battling circuit in FL.

Best moment for you in Hip Hop?
Our personal best moment had to be when we did a show with The Beatnuts, who are personal favorites of both of ours and we destroyed our live set. Later during their set JuJu grabbed the mic and said "Shout out to Critical Madness...the new Beatnuts!" Toast to that!

Please speak on your new album "Bringing Out the Dead"?
We're very proud of the work we put into "Bringing Out The Dead." It definitely represents us as a group and as multi-faceted individuals. Critical Madness is "Binge Rap" and the variety of topics and in-your-face music on this album is enough to make your head explode. There's songs that make you think and there's ones that will make you drink until you pass out during your favorite adult film.

Who are some of the artists and producers you collaborated with on "Bringing Out the Dead"?
As far as emcee collaborations on the album we have Sabac Red (formerly of Non Phixion), Joell Ortiz (Slaughterouse), Young Zee and Yah Yah (Outsidaz) and extended fam Illustrate (Grey Matter), Jus-One and J.Bada.

On the production side TEMPERMENTAL (Grey Matter) handles most of the album with TzariZM covering a good section as well. There's also production from Marco Polo and DC the MIDI Alien. The backdrop that the producers have laid for "Bringing Out The Dead" gives it a certain feel that is 100% CM.

Any plans for a tour in the near future?
Tours are always in the plans. Working them out is the key that starts the vehicle.

What's next as an artist?
We're taking the album worldwide and hitting the road to spread the virus as soon as possible. We are always recording and Madness is always carrying the torch in the battle arena as well. "Bringing Out The Dead" is just the start of turning the world into "Zombieland" in our own way. Take part in the sickness!

Shout outs?
We always want to show love and respect to the fans and everyone in our lives that has supported us. Much love to the makers of every alcoholic beverage and porn and every artist who has ever done what they love even when outsiders think it's the wrong road to travel. One love. CM Bitch!!

Music Influences?
I like a little bit of everything. But as far as hip hop Ghostface Killah, MF Doom, Freddie Foxx, Gangstarr, Diamond D, Wu Tang Clan, Redman, Tame one, Pace won and Young Zee, just to name a few.

Debut appearance as an artist?
My first debut was with my dude Big Rob and Pilot Elsmere in my college days. We was a group called The Perfect Strangers. That was like 2000, had very good times in the studio with my brothers doing music.

Best moment for you in Hip Hop?
Best moment for me is getting a reaction out of people when they hear my music. That is always a good moment for me. Lol!

Please speak on your new album "Superhero Sandwiches"?
I had a great time doing this album. All the recording was done in linden at the Dpf studio with my dude Aurc. It was a lot of drinking and breaking down cartoons to get the skits on the album. I just try to take it another way to sound different but give the heads just some raw hip hop at the same time. So I try to make a fun album plus raw and dirty.

Who are some of the artists and producers you collaborated with on "Superhero Sandwiches?"
Well first I had to put my Green Llamas brothers on the album. I got Decay, Selfish, Fluent and of course my homie Vincent Price. I got my dude B Stilt from the Remarkable Mayor. I got my dude Sosh B out of Queens to do a spot on there. I had the whole A.L.F. crew do a song with me (thats Aurc, Loki and Foley), I got my dude E Class, Snake Eyes, Sean Stone and Lil God from Ambush, had to show love to homie around the way. As for production on the album I got tracks from Vincent Price, Fluent, Selfish, Dwell, Aurc, The S Ence and Tuff Guy. Anyone on my this album I just got love for and dig what they doing for music now.

Any plans for a tour in the near future?
As of right now trying to set up an all Jersey tour. I trying to get the buzz up in my state first then I'm going across the map. So if you in Jersey anytime look me up for shows. Hit me on myspace.com/livdamayor or facebook.com/remarkablemayor. Come check out a show.

What's next as an artist?
As of right now trying to get Superhero Sandwiches some light to the world with Dominaton Recordingss. I got a free downloadable mixtape on Slangcorp.com with Vincent Price called Building Skyscrpers. So hopefully everyone could support that. I got the Reamarkable Mayor album on the way with my homie B Stilt. I got some more stuff on the line coming out. So just be on the look out for Tone Liv this and next year.

Shout outs?
Any one who helped me with this album. Bigs up to the Green Llama camp (Vincent Price, Butta Verses, Dibiase, Selfish, Decay, Fluent, Ill Don and Varan) shot out to homie B Stilt (part of the Remarkable Mayor) what up to Self, Sol Zalez, Dat Kid and the whole No Name Society. Shot out to Domination Recordings for giving me a chance to express myself. Delaney Homes in the building and anyone that I cross path with. Big up to Sosh B, shot out to Konflik (when you come home I don't think they going to be ready for you fam), everyone from Jersey stand up!

Muneshine "Status Symbol" reviewed in Exclaim

Muneshine | Status Symbol | By Thomas Quinlan

Having proved himself with a well-received instrumental album, as well as creating beats for a variety of underground hip-hop heroes, rapper/producer Muneshine concentrates on just rapping with his latest album. Well, there is one beat contribution: "Love You More" is an up-tempo, jazzy number about artistic integrity that ends the album on a positive note. At the other end of the record, Muneshine puts a novel spin on the second-person hype track most non-rapping producers resort to by making it about himself. The song is soulful and jazzy, much like the rest of the album, but without the boom bap drums. While Muneshine mostly prefers concepts, staying on topic with detailed imagery and witty lyrics, it's the two posse cuts ("What Now," with Sean Price and Termanology, and bonus cut "It's Mine," with the odd mix of Little Vic, Emilio Rojas, Skyzoo, Kenn Starr and D-Sisive), and party track "Liquorhound" that are the standouts. A throwback to mid- to late '90s NYC hip-hop, Status Symbol should appeal to fans of Native Tongues, Pete Rock and Jay Dee. (Urbnet)
